E la voglia di iniziare a giocare/collezionare/imparare.

I problemi dell'Italia

Per la prima volta in vita mia ho avuto l'onore di ascoltare un ragionamento di senso compiuto senza i soliti orpelli del tipo "il vero nocciolo del problema", "ciò che veramente interessa i cittadini" e "il vero tema di fondo" su ciò che riguarda l'italico stato delle cose.
I miei complimenti vanno (a sorpresa) ad un personaggio come Roger Abravanel.
Abravanel ha saputo toccare dei temi chiave come la totale assenza di disegno politico, inteso come visione di una società e su quale ruolo debba assumere lo stato nei confronti dei cittadini, denunciando l'assenza di strategia politica ed il vuoto pneumatico che regnerà nel post-funerale (oramai inevitabile) dell'attuale generazione politica.

Abstract
========

Packets with rrtype zero can cause named to crash.

This vulnerability has been assigned CVE-2011-2464.


Technical Details
=================

A defect in the affected BIND 9 versions allows an attacker

to remotely
cause the "named" process to exit by sending a specially crafted packet.
This defect affects both recursive and authoritative servers.
The code location of the defect makes it impossible to protect BIND
using ACLs configured within named.conf or by disabling any features
at compile-time or run-time.

A remote attacker would need to be able to send a specially crafted packet
directly to a server running a vulnerable version of BIND.
There is also the potential for an indirect attack via malware that is
inadvertently installed and run, where infected machines have direct
access to an organization's nameservers.

Note: CVE-2011-2465 is also fixed with this update, CVE-2011-0414,
CVE-2011-1907 and  CVE-2011-1910 have been fixed previously but weren't
of sufficient impact to warrant an advisory.


Solutions and Workarounds
=========================

We suggest fixing this vulnerability by using the current net/bind98 or
net/bind97 pkgsrc package instead of the in-system bind until the entire
system can be updated (eg to the next security/critical release, or a
binary snapshot from http://nyftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/ from past
the fix date).

Progetto Ksplice [troppo bello per essere vero]

Ksplice è un progetto che ha sede presso il MIT e serve per effettuare aggiornamenti di sicurezza senza reboot del kernel .
Gli studenti dietro al progetto,hanno costituito una società con lo stesso nome: Ksplice Inc. e inoltre vengono offerti anche servizi di aggiornamento gratuito per un certo numero di distribuzioni.
Tutto ciò si è concluso il 21 luglio, quando Oracle ha annunciato di aver acquisito Ksplice Inc., per incorporare nei propri servizi nella propria offerta di supporto per Linux.

La nuova osservazione amplia le conoscenze delle prime fasi di sviluppo dell'universo primordiale
Potrebbe aprire la strada a una più profonda comprensione dello sviluppo del cosmo primordiale la scoperta di un gruppo di astronomi che è riuscito a osservare quello che si candida a essere il più lontano quasar di cui si abbia notizia finora.
Questo raro e brillante “faro cosmico” alimentato da un buco nero con buco nero due miliardi di volte più massiccio del Sole, è di gran lunga l'oggetto più brillante mai osservato presente nell'universo quando esso non aveva più di 800 milioni di anni, cioè solo un piccola percentuale della sua età attuale.
L'oggetto trovato, denominato ULAS J1120+0641 è 100 milioni di anni più giovane dell'oggetto che deteneva finora il primato della distanza. Il redshift rilevato per la sua radiazione è infatti of 7,1, un valore che equivale a guardare indietro nel passato remoto dell'universo quando esso aveva solo 770 milioni di anni, solo il 5 per cento della sua età attuale. Prima di questa scoperta, il valore più alto mai misurato per il redshift è di 6,4, equivalente a un'età dell'universo di 870 milioni di anni.

Security vulnerabilities in ISC BIND 9

Internet Systems Consortium today released two new security advisories detailing a couple of newly found security issues within ISC BIND 9.

ISC BIND 9 Remote packet Denial of Service against Authoritative and Recursive Servers

A defect in the affected versions of BIND could cause the "named" process to exit when queried, if the server has recursion enabled and was configured with an RPZ zone containing certain types of records. Specifically, these are any DNAME record and certain kinds of CNAME records.

The patch release of BIND 9.8.0-P4 alters the behavior of RPZ zones by ignoring any DNAME records in an RPZ zone, and correctly returning CNAME records from RPZ zones. (Details)
